Musk mulls starting a new social media platform

Stating that the existing platforms have been taken over by people who censor common sense.

Then he buys a near 10% stake in Twitter to become the largest shareholder and holds more than 4x the shares of the founder Jack Dorsey.

Musk knows this one, he, like Dorsey, diluted his shares in PayPal to the point where he was ousted by investors.

Musk paid $2,9bn for his shares to take him to almost 10%. Musk is worth $289bn. Bound to be some interesting outcomes from here. Hard to tell your largest shareholder "we barred you because......"

Tesla is about to split shares again. The last time they did this shares appreciated 400% in value on a 5 way split. I expect a much larger split this time. Musk could easily become the first $trillionaire. Which means he'll have the clout to buy just about anything he wants.

Companies who thought themselves "too big" to buy might be having another look. Might want to get their "poison pill" clauses in their shares now, rather than when it is too late.

Social media firms like twitter are not impartial. Their conduct during the Presidential campaign was awful.
Also during Covid. They can censor something as being "factually incorrect" without having to provide any supporting evidence.
In the government's upcoming On line harms bill they will still be able to censor as they wish, because there is a clause in there which lets them censor "legal but harmful" material.
Yes, this is intended to crack down on "self harm" sites. But "harmful"? Who decides what is harmful? People like Facebook, Twitter and youTube.

If Musk provides an alternative to this lot then good.

Certainly he's decided that there needs to be an outlet which represents what the people want.

Unfortunately not every person is is either pleasant or well balanced. Which allows censure. The main issue is that censure has become a tool to suppress.
