Loved seeing your photos, it looked gorgeous!

Quick question, how was Gatwick both outward and inbound? I know it changes by the week/day but Joe and Amanda are flying out of there to Kos on Tuesday and while we can see plenty about problems at Birmingham and Manchester we can’t find much about Gatwick.

Joe booked Gatwick because it was cheaper, without realising where it was. He was hoping John would drop them off and pick them up  They’ve compromised and John’s taking them on Tuesday and then they’re getting the train (or rather, trains - there’re four) on their return…which of course has totally wiped out any savings they made by flying from the cheapest airport.

It was fabulous Jo :D xx

Gatwick was fine both ways. No issues with queuing at all, and luggage drop at check-in is very quick as they have a HUGE bank of DIY automatic machines that do it, the biggest in the world apparently  Easy to use, but people on hand to help if needed. Our plane was delayed but that wasn't an airport issue. Coming home, from landing to leaving the terminal took just over 30 minutes - really good.

That’s good to know, they’ve not got to check anything in though as they’ve paid £20 extra for early boarding and two cabin bags each.

He asked me to book the trains back for them and it was tricky trying to think of whether the plane would be delayed coming in, or if there’d be queues at passport control. It’d be fine if they wanted to pay a small fortune and get anytime tickets which were coming in at over £200 but they understandably didn’t want to pay that much so the earliest and cheapest I could book leaves Gatwick for Victoria at around 7.30am, I think they're scheduled to land at around 3am so have got a bit of leeway if there’s any delay.

There are worse places to spend a few hours after a trip than an airport. At least there are places to sit and eat, lounges, TV, and they protect you from the weather.

Gatwick arrivals or a platform at Victoria - tough choice.

Yes, they’ll be able to get some breakfast while they’re waiting.
They’ve got to go from Gatwick > Victoria > Euston > B/ham New St > Hednesford, changing at each station, and his car will be waiting on my Mom and Dad’s drive near the station at the end
Rather them than me!

Exhausted reading that.

Although saying that....back in the day Don and I did crazy flight times, (ie cheap  ) to mad places being young and care free.

The difference now is we'd (me  ) pay more to have nice flight times.
