Keypad problem

The letter betwee the "b" ad the "m" o my Samsug netbook has stopped workig. Sometimes it works but mostly it does't. If I press it cotiually I suddely get a row of nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn (thus) but i ormal typig it doesn't work. I've tried prising the key off and pressig it backj o but I'm afraid of beig too gung ho ad breakig it. Any advice would be welcome.

It sounds like something got into the keyboard and is blocking the key.

I've never had much success with fixing this. My normal recourse is to head for Ebay and see if I can replace the keyboard. The one time I took a keyboard completely apart I totally destroyed it. Netbook keyboards are even more difficult as they are so small a form factor.

Sorry not helpful I know but it's not an easy one to fix. You could try WD40 but I've not found that to work well either.

Someone has advised me to turn it upside down and give it a good thump. It seems to have worked! n n n n n n n n n

I think when I opened the lid a little speck fell out so that might have been underneath the key blocking the contact. Highly technical stuff.

We used to call that The Rediffusion Method. That's what they used to do with TVs brought in for repair - give it a good thump and a shake and take it out again.

Well there's always the hoover too. I assumed that shaking banging turning upside down etc to clear any gunk would be intuitive.... See what happens when you Ass U Me.....

By the time I get to ditching a keyboard it's usually suffered the tortures of the damned trying to get it to work. But I hesitate to advise people to bang or knock laptops as, unless it's off and you know the drive is safe, it can cause drive errors in the future. I managed to damage a laptop hard drive once just by turning it through 180deg suddenly when in my hand... They gyroscopic effect was quite strong which pushed the heads into the drive....

off topic, but when I worked in the Army I had a 14lb sledge hammer with a cut off handle so I could "adjust" things from under a truck. So I'm inclined to err on the side of caution when advising knocking and banging. I can, quite literally, crush PC hardware in my hands by mistake....

This is me you're talking to Suff. I don't have any intuition when it comes to computers.

I once cleaned the "dust" of a micro computer keyboard which was starting to fail.

Only to find that the Graphite "dust" was the contact medium. End one micro computer with integral keyboard.... No need to worry about which key's were not working. My nice clean shiny keyboard didn't have a single key which worked....
