211 votes for him and 63 margin. Yes they were looking for an 80 margin as that is their majority. But they'll take 63.
Theresa May won by 83 but she had a minority government. The situations are completely reversed. She couldn't punish MP's for voting against her as she just make the situation worse. Boris can expel 10MP's from the party and still govern successfully. Once one or two are banished to the wilderness, then the others will fall in line.
The most vulnerable MP's to this tactic are Tories in safe Tory seats. They're never going to win a Lib Dem election and they're going to be banished from politics, possibly for the rest of their lives.
This is over for a year. Perhaps we can get back to inflation, economy, trade, energy prices, people who need help and a war in Ukraine?
The press have shot their bolt for now. Partygate is over, there is no further mileage in it. There won't be an election and there can't be a challenge to the PM for another year. In fact this is the most stabilising news we could have got and they can go weave their plans in their little dark holes for the next year. Realising that the time to attack Boris was not now but 9 months before an election. They would have succeeded with MP's worried about their jobs and the press getting the public to dance to their tune.
Hopefully, a year from now, the Ukrainian war will be over. Mostly for the Ukrainians but secondly for the stability it will bring elsewhere.
You won't be seeing a leadership challenge a year from now. My prediction may be wrong but I don't think so.
