Fuel prices (again!)

Postby TheOstrich » 07 Jun 2022, 18:10

Huge difference in unleaded between the two local petrol stations - Esso in town is 178.9 but BP up by Aldi is now 186.9p
Diesel prices are both at 189.9 .....

So glad I topped up at 173.9 middle of last week ....... :)

Madness!

Local Esso 181.9, Morrisons, down the road, 167.7.

And it all seemed to go up over the Jubilee BH weekend away, didn't it, for some strange reason? Were we all going for a drive....? Were they taking advantage of us?

You bet!

I saw £1.979 on my way back over.

I wanted to fill at the Harwich before crossing over as I was near half a tank with a Loooong way to go. Asda had had a power outage, Morrisons wasn't working, not accepting cards and the Esso was almost £2. I managed to get out of Belgium and into France at Lille before filling at a fuel station I now south of the city. I managed €1.81. When I got home it was €1.79 and I filled it up before going into the house.

Today it is €2.11

This was a prediction I made back when oil dropped to $30 per barrel and it was €0.99 in France. I said that when it returned to $130 per barrel it would go to €2 per litre. Seems I was right.

It was £1.86.9 this morning at the local Shell station. This evening it was £1.89.9!
I filled up this morning at the BP station in town, £1.81.9

When the price of a barrell of oil goes up the price of petrol immediately goes up, ven though it will be a few days before that oil
get to the refinery and into the petrol pumps.

But when the price ges down there is no corresponding reduction in the price of petrol at the pumps.

There’s a filling station between Cannock and Stafford, it’s the only one on the A34 between the two towns, a distance of around 10 miles, and it’s known for being expensive. We came past on Sunday and both petrol and diesel were 196.9 yet people were filling up, had to double check on the way back that our eyes weren’t deceiving us.

exactly this!! and wasn't there meant to be a reduction in fuel duty or something from the government; that doesn't seem to have been passed on to the consumer either

My petrol light came on this morning on the way to the station - I dread how much it's going to cost to put petrol in this evening :(
