As for the popcorn. The result is immaterial, it will eventually happen, but the taste of sweet and salt is irresistible. Tried to find a Tory salty tears version but it's still in the popper. I can wait. ;)

Ah sorry. Thought I'd be precise though.

Well you might as well enjoy it. I'm going to review the news on it closely. If he goes he goes. As far as I'm concerned they are doomed no matter what. What I don't want is someone worthwhile to get caught in the meat grinder when they fail to win the next election. Tories do not keep leaders who don't win an election. Even if the election is unwinable. They are expected to produce miracles.

Hang on. A few weeks ago the Tories were going to cream the next GE, said you. because of Johnson, now they are going to lose it, says you.. Make your mind up FGS! Win or lose?

Gove has now been sacked, that's 42 resignations.
There are 120 ministers, roughly.

And a third of them have resigned, He's toast.

The media were always anti Boris but in the end his own loose relationship with the truth did for him.
Looking at the contenders I don't know who will get the job. Maybe Penny Mordaunt?

One thing I have noticed about the Conservative leadership election is that they let MP's whittle the contenders down until there are just two, at which point the members are graciously allowed to join in.
This seems to have led (Johnson apart) to a succession of leaders (Major, Cameron, May) who are very representative of the Parliamentary Conservative party, but much less representative of the ordinary Conservative member.

Excuse me. I've been saying for months now that it is unlikely the Tories will win the next election through sheer inertia of time. I've also been saying that the inevitable economic impacts of Covid are going to cause a monumental challenge to getting re-elected.

I've also been saying I didn't want a credible replacement for Johnson only to lose the next GE anyway and then lose a possible good leader. To be honest they might as well elect *unt and be done with it. That will settle his hash for good at the next GE.

I did say that the fringe who thought Johnson could win the next election might have a point because he's already done it once. But he would seriously have had to buy the votes.

Only the cripplingly debilitating effect of May's loss of confidence of a minority government led to Johnson winning. In short almost nobody else wanted to take the job and not enough wanted Hunt to take on the job of getting us out of the EU finally.

This time the only viable candidates will, as you say, reflect the majority of the parliamentary party. And the majority of Conservative MP's are Remainers. A year from now a large chunk of the Tory party are going to be bemoaning the choice of leader and I'm going to laugh and laugh and laugh and if I get a chance on any forum I'm going to have my say. Which is their "loyalty" has bought them their situation.

Let's get facts straight. The party is hated by anyone who is not a core Tory and plenty of them too; the Red Wall seats are going anyway and barring a huge miracle, they're going down at the next GE. Whoever takes the reins next will not be a magician because whilst they want a new leader they don't want the leader to lead. They want the new leader to listen to them and do what they want. Only problem there is that there are at least 3 different factions in there at the moment and they all want very different things.

The next 3 years are going to be the circus of the century in Westminster and I thought I'd seen it all with May.

It seems for the moment, at least, that Boris Johnson will remain as PM until his successor is chosen and able to take over. I hope that the constant carping and focus on Boris Johnson's lack of integrity and economy with the truth will now die down and allow him to keep the government ticking over in a productive manner during the next few months. To be honest I wont be sorry to hear the end of partygate, pinchergate, or any other gate, and I just want to see our elective government actually govern for once.

You and me both Meds, but the media has realised that it has atm the power to make or break Prime Ministers.
Unbelievably, Theresa May is being put forward as an "Interim" Prime Minister!!
No thank you, once was enough.

I hope not Cromwell. Theresa May is a decent enough person but her handling of the Brexit negotiations was a disaster and made Boris Johnson's job of providing the oven ready deal that much harder.
