Have the authorities and media gone a bit OTT with this?

Last night's 6 o'clock BBC news spent nearly half its time on the heatwave - how bad it will be, what to do, tips and tricks to stay cool and on and on.

It's forecast for two days!

Every year millions fly away seeking similar temperatures for two weeks. Their holidays do not come with a health warning, do they?

Draw the curtains on the sunny side of the house, but leave a gap for light to get in. Take plenty of drinks. Chill.

Its driving me mad. Apparently the COBRA committee have met now, well by the time the've decided what to do it'll be over. Its two days for heavens sake. I am actually going to London on Monday to meet a friend, although if I listen to the elf' and salty crew, I wouldn't be going. I'll take water, cool clothes and a hat (although as of now I dont have a hat) and I'm sure I'll survive

The hottest day of all was 3 July, with temperatures reaching 35.9 °C (96.6 °F) in Cheltenham.

Come on now, we have to have warnings on coffee cups to say that the contents will be hot and on bleach bottles that the bleach isn’t to be drunk. Kids recently saw eating detergent pods as a challenge.

Some people are stupid and need any dangers, however small and obvious, spelling out clearly.

There is a movement called Safety Third. It is gaining strength and I hope it becomes strong enough to counteract this idiocy.

It has been 32-35C constantly the last week. I forgot to bring a coat and when ai got to Calais and stepped out of the car I had to delve into my suitcase for a hoodie. Believe it or not 22c can feel pretty cold.

Crommers, I remember those temps as I lived very near Heathrow in '76. I remember getting the tube up to Westminster on one of those days, for my Civil Service interview, and the tarmac roads there were melting Our houses were being demolished that summer, to build blocks of flats, we were waiting to be rehoused. I remember sun bathing in the back garden, surrounded by rubble and dust in the neighbouring gardens

Let's not forget that later this year hundreds of thousands of supporters from cooler climes will descend on Qatar for the World Cup where temperatures will be higher than our "heatwave".

Will they be given free saline pills and hand-held spritzer cooling fans to keep them safe? No!

FGS, we need to get a grip!

I worked in the M.E. for years where temps on the airfields for months on end were well into the 50s, and we all had a canteen which we could fill up at any water cooler and were ordered to do so - there were many.

TWO DAYS of hot weather. Jeez!
