Rain and forecasts

Postby meriad » 22 Jul 2022, 18:31

Yestesterday when I looked at the forecast for today it said rain more or less all day so I decided to trust said forecast and didn't go to water the allotment. Well here we are just gone 7.30pm and not a drop - nada, zilch, nothing, nichts - so guess what I will be doing tomorrow ;-)

So besides the fact that we really really could do with a week of soft gentle continuous of more "than just drizzle, but not a downpour" rainfall, I do wonder what the point is of weather forecasts; can't remember the last time they were accurate :?

We have had rain on and off since about 10 AM, as forecast. Mainly light showers but with one or two heavy enough to make the gutters run. The roads and paths have been wet all day and it looks to be the same well into the night.

I use a site that gets its readings from the local airport, Leeds and Bradford, so the forecasts are pretty good.

Ria, see if you can find somewhere using Gatwick, Farnborough or even Northolt readings.

I found this... https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/uk/guildford it uses Farnborough.

Ria, we've had showers forecast since Wednesday, but aside from a very few drops it didn't rain until yesterday evening, when we had a decent amount

The chance of rain here in North Dorset yesterday was forecast at around 20%, but there was an amber warning of the risk of isolated thunderstorms. You might get one; you might not .....

I think that was spot on. Normally, we turn out to be a "not", but in the event we had an intense localised downpour for half an hour or so around 4:00 that completely refilled our empty water butt!

As far as I can tell in Lincolnshire, nothing. But I did sleep in.

We've had light drizzle from Thursday, but it has been very light.
