Back to cash?

According to PO counters more people are drawing out cash rather than using cards. This is to help with budgeting in these tough times. People find it easier to draw out an amount for the weekly bits and pieces and that's it.

It is an old trick, and it works! Cards and phone apps are just too easy, especially for impulse buys.

I have a pre-pay card to do much the same thing. I top up on Monday but If it gets to the weekend and I want a few beers and only have £2 left I have to go without.

Look after the pennies, and all that.

I don''t think I will ever go back to cash Frank. I used to have weekly housekeeping and always kept within the allowance. Now I get my housekeeping monthly and I still keep within my monthly allowance. The advantage to me is that I can spread my outgoings over the month, maybe spend a bit more one week and a little less another, but it all comes out right by the end of the month.

I think budgeting is a state of mind. I have always budgeted through hard times and good times and I am pretty confident I wont overspend. I hope my other half feels the same in the months to come, as he pays the majority of the household bills and is a pensioner on a fixed income.

I have always used cash and for just this reason.
If cash ever goes we will regret it.

Meds, I do agree, but unfortunately some people just cannot budget, be it weekly or monthly. They have a) never been taught how, and b) have been brought up on everything 'now' so it goes on the card. Job done. If it's a bit over there is always the overdraft....

People are now learning the hard way that this cannot continue, that's why cash is back.

They are not using it for bills, they are still on SO or DD, but for all the little things that add up but get missed - the meal deals, that 'must have' T-shirt, the extra pint.... When they have to pull out the cash it makes them think.

I pretty much stopped carrying cash when possible as I hit 4 different currencies in my wallet and in my pockets.

I hardly ever use cash, even less since the pandemic. I do, however, have a handle on what I'm spending.

I can understand the return to cash - there are always going to be folk out there who can't budget and to them, it's a bit of a failsafe.

I must confess, Mrs O and I are moving back to cash for small value purchases, purchases at places we don't regularly visit, and purchases at places where I don't intrinsically "trust" the business .....

I/we use card all the time ,as long as receipts are kept and check the bank weekly don't have problem.So much easier than carrying coins .
Still a few small stores that won't accept card for under a fiver shopping just go elsewhere

Always use cash never ever used a credit card in a shop and only use credit card online
I'm go with money management of had to be all my life my one rule is pay credit card in full every month

I find I spend more when I have cash in my pocket than I do when I don't.
