Bad news in the next village.

Sharlston, where I grew up.
There was an engagement party last night in the "Old Club" on the main road. They got a bit loud and there was an argument which I think spilled out onto the road.
The lad whose engagement party it was was punched once and fell, hitting his head.
He has suffered catastrophic injuries; he was taken to intensive care but there is no hope for him. His family are going to the hospital to say goodbye today.
What a terrible thing, and over something so minor.

We've just been past; there is that blue and white tape closing off a lane of the main road which has a lot of glass on it.

This happens so often nowadays.

There was a stage in #1 Son's life when we would get a phone call at 01:30, hospital calling us to pick him up and take him home. Beaten up in some pub or other. It stopped when he realised that he was 6'1" and big and started punching first.

Hell of a way to live though. Parents lives ruined, fiancé's life ruined. For what? An argument?

That is awful, Crommers, but sadly, these sort of incidents are on the increase these days.
I hope they got the person who threw the punch.
