Six horses and riders making their way to the local bridle path. It's the first time I have seen them this year - they are usually every week in summer.

I guess they must have been rested due to the heat and the very dry and stoney ground, We have had some rain these past 10 days so things must have softened up a bit.

Yes, the ground is still very hard round here. My friend Emma's daughter has horses, and she cancelled going to a show for that reason.

My ex SiL has two thoroughbred mares and before the ban on hoses the farm owner put sprinklers out to keep the paddock fresh, but the horses all congregated under the copse in the middle of the field. They were mostly stabled for the whole summer - poor things, they suffer from sunburn just as we do.

Hopefully they can now get some decent exercise in the autumn.
