MrsC and her sis have just returned from our village library. They always have a good gossip whilst they're in there.
One woman was complaining about problem families being moved into the village.
So we have found out that one house in the village has been converted into a house of multiple occupancy. In practice this tends to mean you get drug addicts, alcoholics or other people with problems put into them; and we have. When Mrs walked past there was an overwhelming smell of cannabis wafting out of said house.
Which pales into nothing when she was told that someone else who has just moved into the village has opened a brothel. Apparently asain gentlemen are habitually turning up at three and four o'clock in the morning to this address.
Lovely.
This village pays literally millions in council tax. We can't the roads mended but we do get druggies and a knocking shop.

And it's a catch 22 isn't it..... none of us would like either of those two near to where we live, but equally those people do need to live somewhere and then the question is where do you put them? Personally I think nrs 9 or 11 Downing Street would make a perfect location as would next door to every single MP in this country, but sadly that'll never happen.


But seriously, hopefully the people in the house keep to themselves, and that whatever addictions there may or may not be don't have an impact on you / the village

Pretty bad, nobody wants drug users/dealers around, particularly if they have children! The same goes for the brothel

Brothels are legal over here and we have one in the next village

We’ve got problems around here, not in our village but three hotels 2 miles away in Cannock are now housing asylum seekers (a Holiday Inn, Premier Inn and an independent, which only leaves the Travelodge). Shoplifting is rife, fights amongst themselves are breaking out, women walking alone are being followed by groups of them and the latest is that they’ve managed somehow to open the clothing charity container on Asda car park and helped themselves to the contents. I went in Aldi near the Holiday Inn a couple of months ago and there were three security guards patrolling the aisles, I’d never seen one in there before let alone three. There’s a retail park near all three hotels and the stores there are having big problems, especially Iceland’s Food Warehouse and McDonalds.

I won’t get the train into Birmingham from Cannock station now because it’s unmanned and quite out of the way, when I got it with Tom in October we were in the minority in the station. When we got on the train, which was quiet, there were groups walking up and down the train and I’d have felt very vulnerable had I not had 6ft2 Tom with me.

It's a problem that not easy to solve ?we haven't any here
At the moment but plenty further up the coast in skegness and in hull
We do how ever have drug users and sellers a big problem every where not an ideal world for society

That's shocking Jo. That's the sort of news that never makes the papers.
We will have to see I suppose.
There have been complaints about the "vulnersble people" being housed in hotels in Wakefield town centre. Open drug taking, fighting and street drinking etc. So you have to think that the council are trying to spread them out a bit.
As Ria says, they have to go somewhere. But the truth is that nobody wants them and there are very good reasons for that.
I'm off to the local parish council meeting next month to make my views known.

Give 'em Hell, Crommers!

I'm not aware we've any such hostels in this town, but we have seen a huge increase in petty vandalism and theft over the last few months, bricks through windows and cars being broken into, etc., centred on a particular area of the town which we thought was basically "alright". You never can tell, and we know from past experience that neighbourhoods can deteriorate rapidly.
I've been told there are drug distributors in town, as being on the railway, we're definitely on a "County Line", but the Police don't seem to be particularly proactive about it.

One hotel near J27 of the m6 was being used for sylumseekers. Could see groups of them walking into the local shopping area where there is an Aldi
Safeway and other food shops.
Ahotelin the centre of town was also being used as someone I know tried to book a room there but was refused.
So it is happening in every town and village. There is money for that but not for repairing potholes.
They don't seem to be affected by the cost of living increase
