Energy bill

For the last quarter our electric bill was £36. The gas was £643!
It is a surprise because we have only had the heating on for an hour in the morning and after 4 o'clock.

I wonder when the gas bill might come down.

Our spend over Nov, Dec, Jan is £279.94 Electricity, £526.46 Gas. Our gas consumption will come down quite considerably in the summer months. We currently have the central heating on all day and evening, tbh I'd rather suck up the bill than be cold.

How do you use so little electricity Crommers??

Blimey Crommers! Ours was £198 for gas, and £230 for electric Mind you we’re still on a fixed tariff from 2021. The solar panels are starting to kick in now.

Our last 3 months' worth of bills - both standard tariffs - are electricity £116, gas £417.
The actual rate of our gas consumption - units per day - has certainly been higher this winter than last .....

This week, as it's been sunny, we've been heating the main room of the house during the daytime with a Dimplex electric oil heater, run off the solar panels, for free. If we use it any other time, it absolutely eats electricity!

I'm hoping we'll see the gas bill start to fall from around mid-March, Crommers, down to virtually nothing in the summer.

#1 daughter had this, she got a bill with near 1 year's worth of charges on it. It was an estimate. She had the trials from hell to get the actual reading entered on her account. The website kept crashing and refusing to take the reading (wonder why).

Now she has the real reading entered and they have given her a credit which she will run down. Personally I'd have made them pay it back and charged them 10% interest. If they didn't pay the interest I'd take them to the small claims court for it....

I think the government rebate all came off the electric bill Jen. Still a whacking great gas bill though, especially as we have conciously gone out of our way to use less of it.

Ah that makes sense. Not sure how Eon do it. Your total quarterly bill is still £127.46 lower than ours, but I use the tumble dryer for most of our washing which probably accounts for a large portion of the difference.

Just had the gas bill up to 10th February (today). Haven't got a gas smart meter but Eon request the reading, I submit it online, and they produce the bill virtually straight away.
The bill for the month was £161.37. Hopefully that'll be the last mega-bill for this winter.

As an aside, my S in Birmingham had a chirpy letter from Severn Trent Water the other week saying "Hey, we've changed your water meter and fitted you with a brand new smart one!" First she knew about it.
They never gave her advance warning they were going to do this; I guess they get away with it because the water meters are in the pavement and they don't need to come onto your premises.

But I've never heard of a smart water meter .... has anyone else got one?
