And here we go again. Sandbags have been laid. Back yard prepped, kettle boiled and thermos filled, food and water squirrelled. Ready and waiting for cyclone Gabrielle now. And to think, for the last 3 years we have had amazing summers under drought conditions.

To put this cyclone into perspective for you, the cyclone is bigger than the North Island which is 830km long, apparently the uk is about 1000km long. And the eye is going to pass very close to us. But not for another day. So many power outages already. I think we might be in for a rough couple of days.

I was on scout camp this weekend, but we came home early as the storm was hitting earlier than the original forecast. So nice to be home and not in a tent.

Checking in

Postby Weka » 12 Feb 2023, 10:04

I don’t get on a computer much these days, and I find the phone app to be painful. It works for a while then after 2 or 3 minutes it slows down so much that a carrier pigeon would be faster at bringing you my message.

Well the wind gusts have started and the house is already creaking with them. And the cyclone isn’t here yet. This is just the warm up act for the next 18 hours.

Hi Weka, we are at least getting some coverage of the cyclone, unlike the floods, which were largely overshadowed by Jacinda's resignation.

I hope that you have got things like garden furniture and pot plants tied down as best you can And, please, when inside stay away from windows and doors on the windy side. The pressure difference, out and in, can cause a devastating implosion.

Let everyone stay safe, and please keep us informed. xxx
