We are doing ok. Kids go back to school tomorrow. No major damage here, just the leak in the roof to sort out in a couple of days. I’ve been extremely lucky as I’m in a small valley bordered on 3 sides with hills and by a park on the east with lots of large trees which have acted as a shelter belt. The gale force winds have worked there way around all the compass points over the last few days. The wind here at home has been awful and at times I’ve wondered how windows haven’t blown out and how is the roof still on, but nothing like what it is up on the ridge line.
My friend who lives just the other side of the ridge facing south (15 mins walk away) came around for a couple of hours today to get some respite from the wind. it’s absolutely hammering her house. It’s Tuesday night and we have had red alerts for wind and rain since Sunday. 140mls fell last night. Thankfully things are starting to calm down now.
So much destruction upon destruction after each storm this summer (5th in the last 5 weeks), it’s going to be years before this is all cleaned up. So many roads washed out, landslides, trees down, power outages, flood and wind damaged houses, land/buildings falling into the sea…
Here’s a map of the current power outages. The big green jut out on the right is the east cape. That is totally cut off, no power/phone/internet and all roads in/out blocked or flooded so thats why they aren’t on this map as it’s “not reported by house”
Please send sunshine, ive forgotten what it feels like
