Ah now Shell, you run two separate baths, yes? We don’t, I usually get first dibs and then when I’m done, Tom uses the same water, but if it’s a little cold for his liking, he’ll top it up with hot. We can spend all evening in the bath between us!!

Depending on the models, I understand that dishwashers can actually save you water over hand washing up! When ours worked, it was only on maybe three times a week. I won’t run a half full machine but then we’d run out of cutlery before the next load was due!!! :D

Yes, you’re right, Gal. The newer models actually use less water.

What tricks are you people doing that you need a bath at night and a shower in the morning every day? The mind boggles! ;)

As for dish washers, what's "green" about having two or three times more cups, plates, pans and cutlery than are needed for one meal? I just don't get it. They all use up resources in their production... as does the dish washer. Another mind boggler.

Your average dishwasher uses 17l for a full load. I run my dishwasher every 2nd or 3rd day (mainly because of cat bowls :D ) but if I had to handwash everything every day I'd be going way over that water consumption.

As for bathing / showering - each to their own of course, but at least once a day is just generally nice for the people around us

I am one of those people who cannot bear any 'stuff' in my washing up water. My stepmum once said to me and my sister in law who must have emptied the bowl and refilled it so many times, It'd use less water to just take it out the garden and hose it.

Yes Gal, I like my own water and so does he, mainly because mine always looks scummy with the bubbles and the soap
