House Insurance

My house and contents insurance is due for renewal on 1st june. They want to increase the premium by over £60.00 even thpough
I have not made a claim. So went on the internet and got quotes from other companies. Have found one from Tesco with verysimilar cover
which is only £5,00 more than I paid last year. Will also get Tesco Club Card points.

So I willbe changing insurance companies shortly.

I change my contents insurance every year or so; depending on renewal price. I don't have a lot so basic cover is usually more than enough; and I usually go with super market insurances because they work out the same cost wise (if not less) and you get the points

I have been with Nationwide for years, ever since I worked there and I left in 1998. I used to get staff discount. I have a good policy and best of all no excess. I have needed it in the last few years, one water leakage, resulting in digging up the whole kitchen floor and one flood that came through the kitchen, dining room and hall ceiling. I rang about the flood at 6.30am and they said we'll get a disaster restoration company round within an hour, that made me feel a whole lot better, knowing I had an actual disaster :lol:

Its probably not the cheapest but knowing how brilliantly it all kicked into touch I'm loathe to change

as a matter of interest Shell; would that have been covered by your building or contents insurance? Because I have a leasehold, I only need my own contents insurance; the building insurance is covered by the leaseholder

Ria, I am a tenant so only need landlord's fixtures and fittings (furnished let) plus my own contents insurance. So, I suppose, similar to you. In eight or more years with RSA it has only risen by £2.71 pcm, from £8.98 to £11.69. Average of 23p pcm, year on year.

I cannot be bothered hunting round and giving out my data (kept for seven years and available to be sold on to all and sundry) just to save a few pennies per month.

I could halve the amount by doing away with landlord's fixtures and fittings and pretending that they were my own, but that could risk the validity of my insurance and also put my tenancy at risk. Not worth it.

It was buildings both times Ria. We had subsidence in our first house so we’ve had our moneys worth over the years
