It is around £200 per month. Doses start at 0.25 and go up to 1 over a 2 month period. I'm finding that regardless of dosage, the price is the same for a month.

You are also correct. If you don't adjust your eating habits then you will just wind up where you started.

That being said, if you do lose 8st, your eating habits have already adjusted and people who have lost so much weight will also have to invest in new clothes. Immediately growing out of them again will not be so easy to accept.

I know it's expensive. I know some will see it as a quick fix without commitment. But there is a large community of people who really need the support and I do feel they should get it.

Also there are other fringe benefits. Successfully using this for dieting will remove the need for both Statins and Diabetes medication in one go. That costs the NHS a rather large fortune.

Certainly it should not just be pushed out over the counter like Statins. Just because doing that is an accepted "go away" solution or because it is easier than actually working out what is wrong. The last doctor who tried the "you must take Statins, Studies Show that you WILL benefit". When I asked "what if I'm not one of the 19%?", magically the Statins discussion vanished. Yes I read the studies....

I'm not suggesting we go that route. But I am suggesting that this can be a real help. It does, truly, switch off the appetite when trying to diet. That is a huge enabler for those trying to diet. As a colleague of mine said to his doctor. "So there is risk in this, it is new, all the effects are not known. Now what about the risk to me of having a BMI of 46!". He lives in Scotland. He got his Saxenda. He lost 15lb in 14 days without really trying.

It is around £200, Becky is trying it. It’s that or bariatric surgery as she’s regained a lot of her 8st weight loss and is struggling :(

I agree with you Suff on this.

Kaz, I am very sorry to learn of B's troubles, but she will not be on Wegovy as it is not released yet. She is probably on Saxenda and that is about £200 per month. Wegovy will be £400 to start with.

https://www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/ ... ss/wegovy/

Saxenda also comes with the same caveat I posted above re Wegovy and "No magic pill".

https://www.saxenda.com/about-saxenda/side-effects.html

Saxenda® (liraglutide) injection 3 mg is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with excess weight (BMI =27) who also have weight-related medical problems or obesity (BMI =30), and children aged 12-17 years with a body weight above 132 pounds (60 kg) and obesity to help them lose weight and keep the weight off. Saxenda® should be used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Click here for full Indications and Usage.

It is also worth noting that there are some very serious side effects from these drugs, some could be life threatening.

What are the possible side effects of Wegovy®? Note: for Wegovy® also read Saxenda®
Wegovy® may cause serious side effects, including:

*inflammation of your pancreas (pancreatitis). Stop using Wegovy® and call your healthcare provider right away if you have severe pain in your stomach area (abdomen) that will not go away, with or without vomiting. You may feel the pain from your abdomen to your back
*gallbladder problems. Wegovy® may cause gallbladder problems, including gallstones. Some gallstones may need surgery. Call your healthcare provider if you have symptoms, such as pain in your upper stomach (abdomen), fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), or clay-colored stools
*increased risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in patients with type 2 diabetes, especially those who also take medicines for type 2 diabetes such as sulfonylureas or insulin. This can be both a serious and common side effect. Talk to your healthcare provider about how to recognize and treat low blood sugar and check your blood sugar before you start and while you take Wegovy®. Signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include dizziness or light-headedness, blurred vision, anxiety, irritability or mood changes, sweating, slurred speech, hunger, confusion or drowsiness, shakiness, weakness, headache, fast heartbeat, or feeling jittery
*kidney problems (kidney failure). In people who have kidney problems, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may cause a loss of fluids (dehydration), which may cause kidney problems to get worse. It is important for you to drink fluids to help reduce your chance of dehydration
*serious allergic reactions. Stop using Wegovy® and get medical help right away, if you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat; problems breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting or feeling dizzy; or very rapid heartbeat
*change in vision in people with type 2 diabetes. Tell your healthcare provider if you have changes in vision during treatment with Wegovy®
*increased heart rate. Wegovy® can increase your heart rate while you are at rest. Tell your healthcare provider if you feel your heart racing or pounding in your chest and it lasts for several minutes
*depression or thoughts of suicide. You should pay attention to any mental changes, especially sudden changes in your mood, behaviors, thoughts, or feelings. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any mental changes that are new, worse, or worry you

It's an emotive subject so I will leave it there.

Kaz, best of luck for Becky. It doesn't impact me at all, I had virtually Zero side effects although the list of 90% side effects can be daunting.

I did find two things. One that the 0.25 dose was really too low for me, the pen had enough to give me more and i doubled the dose half way in the first month. Second that even though you don't feel hungry it is best to eat small amounts of veg and protein anyway to keep the system working.

I also went to Costco and got a large container of multiminerals and vitamins. My experience with Atkins is that if you stop putting these into your system, best to use supplements.

I hope Becky does well on it. 8st is no weight to be carrying around. It really is like a millstone and it is self perpetuating.

A bit of input on stopping. I've been on holiday in Canada with my daughter and grandkids I have not seen for 4 years. I didn't get my pills as they arrived the week after I left (even though I paid for 48 hour delivery). I had lost 10kg by the time I went to Canada. I have put on about 4.5kg and this is in a scenario where everyone was pushing food at me all day every day. Including deserts.

I think that if I'm able to break the 30kg barrier with the semaglitides I'll be able to keep this off no matter what. I'm committed to doing this for 2 years so long as I can get my supply.

It’s ok Frank she knows all that, but morbid obesity is bad for your health too.

Thanks Kaz. Desperation really does make you take risks. On the OP I was really wondering where they got the data from. As it was almost impossible for me to get them due to.... Cardio issues.

I read the documentation with the pen very carefully. I was aware of most of the side effects and the list is quite daunting. Especially the list which affects 90% of the patients.

I really didn't get any of the side effects. So I have to wonder about the initial physical health of the patients in the study. But I will put up with a lot to get rid of the weight. Of course when side effects are being talked about nobody really talks about the 1:1m Flu vaccine life changing side effect. Or that MMR can cause 20% of patients with Crohn's in the family to develop the disease.

I'll give an update from time to time good or bad.

B has had no side effects, feels fine on it. TBH if you read the bumf that comes with any meds - including paracetamol - you'd be too frightened to take anything :? I regularly take Lansoprazole but the info that comes with it is terrifying :cute:
