French wine to be destroyed...

Postby Workingman » 26 Aug 2023, 13:51

... this at a cost of €200m.

Such a waste of money... and wine. Why not use it as road / path de-icer or paint stripper? It is all it's good for, anyway, or sell it on the cheap to British fish and chip shops.

"Would sir / madam like some wine with their meal?" would take on a whole new meaning. Red is best, I understand. ;)

Not as good as non-brewed condiment, but needs must.

:?: Why are they "wasting" it, WM?

Has the market collapsed, or is it poor quality this year, over-production or the effects of Bexit on exports or what?

Ossie, it's a combination of market collapse and over-production.

The quality(?) is still there, but winters are getting warmer so not so much need for de-icer. Not sure what has happened to the DIY decoration market and paint. Maybe people have gone back to wallpaper over emulsion.

It might have made a comeback in the vegan "meat" market to make their straw burgers 'bleed' red when cooked, but that market has also collapsed.

Maybe the cosmetics industry could step in - the world needs more redheads with sweet red lips - see the 'Spanish Kiss' for details. ;)

They get support if they destroy it, they take a loss if they do not.

Standard business stuff.

Don't destroy it.

French red wine is cheaper than de-icer. Sell it to Halford's or Carplan for a big profit. :D
