I'm with Saga and my insurance doubled this year. So I started to trawl the comparisons and realised very quickly that for my driving needs it was the same price everywhere.

I checked with Moneysupermarket for my insurance group. My car is 29 and the average premium for my vehicle is "633 and my mileage is not average.

So I just have to pay it.

Joe’s just renewed his.
As a young driver he paid £842 last year. He has the same car, five years no claims, a clean license, same address etc. The only change is that he’s a year older.
The renewal quote from Admiral was £1504.

He got quotes on a comparison website and ended up paying £910 with Aviva.
When he phoned Admiral to request proof of his no claims they offered to price match it

Jo, that's why I always go direct, either via the company website or by phone - usually phone.

1. I get to tell them about me, the driver, and not just become a tick-box entity on a form.

2. Comparison sites get a commission on every policy taken out through them. Going direct avoids that extra cost.

I tired direct too.

Same answer. My car is right on the cusp of high performance vehicles and at nearly £700 it appears to be the norm norm. No matter the age. In fact with a performance like my car my age is probably weighing against me as much as a person in their 20's.

The biggest problem I'm finding is the no claims scam. So if you are with a company that does 19 years of no claims, then move to a company that does 10 years, if you try to go back they give you only 10 years of no claims even though their own records show more than 19.

It's a scam. But given that you can't drive a car without insurance and now they're forcing you to have comprehensive insurance, it is a government backed scam.

I just suck it up and get on with it.
