If the vandals are ever caught, and I hope somebody who knows them dobs them in, they should be locked up and the keys melted, put into orbit and allowed to disintegrate as they re-enter the atmosphere.

My first thought (before I clicked on the link to the article) was - oh no, not another protected tree cut down to make space for yet another development which in itself is bad enough; but the cutting down of that sycamore - that is just heinous. Frank, totally agree - hope they throw the book at the person(s) responsible. That looks like it was cut down by a professional

A16 year old with a chainsaw? He was not alone. Somebody took him there, it's miles from anywhere, they helped him. Please get the lot of them.

He should be made to plant a tree every mile for ten miles each side of the site.
And then come back every month to make msure they are growing. This to be done no matter what the weater is.
And no publicity. If he gets wet that is his problem.
