Parcel Delivery

Postby cruiser2 » 22 Jun 2024, 09:55

While I was out yesterday, Friday, Royal Mail tried to deliver a parcel. As I was not in they did not leave it with a neighbour as they have done
with previous deliveries.
A card which had stuck in the letter box said I could collect it from the local post office.

When I presented the card at the counter I was told that I needed ID. I asked to be shown on the car where it said that.
It was in very small print which I could not read. I had a meaningful discussion about this poor service. I had to go home and
get my passport. This has never happened before and I am going to send a letter of complaint.

As I said to the staff at the post office, I could have injure myself trying to carry the parcel.

It’s to stop people claiming goods that don’t belong to them. If I make an order online to collect from our local branch of, for example, M&S they always ask for ID now.

Around here we have a different type of parcel problem. Our local FB page always seems to have a "has anyone got my parcel?" post.
The delivery firm Evri don't seem to be very reliable going by the number of complaints!

And therein hangs a tale...

Evri take a doorstep photo of a delivery, who picks it up is anybody's guess, they don't care, it was delivered.

At least RM keep the parcel for the rightful owner to collect, as and when.

Sorry you that problem, Cruiser, how annoying.

I've been impressed with our local Royal Mail sorting office here, they are very proactive on the town Facebook Page. If they get a parcel with an incomplete or incorrect address, they post the name of the recipient and ask them to get in touch. I'd say from the replies they have a very good success rating. Although it's not mentioned as such on those posts, ID would be necessary - it has been for years. Always had to provide it when having to pay additional postage charges at Sutton Coldfield sorting office backalong - usually, it turned out to be for something I didn't want, like an RNLI annual calendar!
