Rare bit of excitement - discovered yesterday we'd got a wasps' nest inside our brickwork, back of the house
. There was a small hole down by the damp coursing and they were flying in and out from there. The warmer weather was bringing them out and that's what made us aware of them.
Had to shift the patio tomato plants away from the hole, then called up a local pest controller this morning who said he'd come late this afternoon. He's just been and injected the insecticide, all reasonably straightforward. Said it was one of the most active nests he'd seen this year as they were probably making up for lost time. We're not to go outside for 24 hours, by which time the nest should have been killed off. His parting shot was to make sure we filled the hole in after a few weeks, as you'd be amazed how a mouse could squeeze in there ......
Cost was £60+vat; money well spent I think as he told us the nest could well double in size each week during the summer!
