Caveats.

In 2016 the last two standing were Leadsome and May. Leadsome quit leaving May to be anointed - no membership vote.'

October 2022 only Sunak had enough nominations once Mordaunt withdrew so he was anointed - also no membership vote.

The rules are not set in stone and are, or can be, changed for each election depending upon how the 1922 committee feels.

The good news and the bad news.

The good news. Braverman says that she hopes she is "not driven out to Reform" by Con MPS. In other words - "I'm off". Let's hope so.

The bad news is that polls say (for the moment) that Cleverly is the front runner to win.

If he's the best they can come up with it might be time to give up and start again. "New Cons", "Cons Light", "Different Cons", Cons 4 U".

Actually if the cons continue to double down on mediocrity then it will drive people to Reform.

It has been seen before in other countries.

Mediocrity shares the same root as median, the middle, average, the center, and that is where most of the UK electorate resides or near to one side or the other of it. That is where all parties which want to rule, or take part in ruling, need to be; and it is where the Consrvative phoenix needs to rise from.

The extremes, be they right or left, are for the nutters; and Reform PLC will already have swept up most of them from the right wing for its minority club.

Unsure about that. From what I saw the majority of 18-24 year olds voted Reform in many areas in preference to the Tories.

That kind of thing sparks a shift and if Farage and others say what they want to hear in the commons or on TV, they will double down their vote. What happens next is the leaders start to change and the party drifts a bit more towards the centre whilst retaining strong messages on things voters are very concerned about.

18-24s was the smallest cohort voting Reform PLC. At 9% It was amost exactly the same as for the Conservatives on 8%. Some 75% of that age group voted Lab, Lib Dem or Green.

The biggest share of the vote for both came from the over 60s+ - getting on for 70%.

I did say in some areas.

In others they are going to be WAY dissolution pretty soon. They voted expecting print and spend Huge give-aways, nationalisation of railways, massive pay rises for the NHS and others in public service, buy the voters, damn the economy; core Old Labour stuff.

What they got was "we need to balance the budget as there is a huge black hole in it.

All those students hoping for some seismic shift. They didn't even get a rumble. What a shock.

If they reduce the voting to 16 and do the same again they will get a whole new raft of voters who learn really early not to trust politicians.

At only 8% of RPLC voters if they were in the majority in some areas then they must have been an irrelevance everywhere else.

As for the "Old Labour Stuff" it is not in the manifesto nor published anywhere else. It is what the righties want us to believe, same with votes for 16s. I call it BS!

As for the 'black hole', it does exist and it does need tackling by Labour, even though it was created by the Conservatives.
