I took Jasmine to the vet and left her to have a chest x-ray because her breathing is so laboured. I was just about to say that I was waiting for the vet to call back, when she did so just now.
Jasmine has an awful lot of fluid on her lungs which has developed rapidly. This could be due to a tumour or heart failure. She wanted to drain the fluid and send off a sample, but is worried that the fluid would build up again very quickly and even before they get the results back and start treating her. We had a long discussion and my worry is that Jasmine would be struggling for breath again before treatment and that she could die at home in a nasty way. I have decided that it would be kinder to let her go today. Can't believe I'm doing it. I'm going in to be with her at 4.40. Thanks for your thoughts xxx

Thank you for all your kind thoughts. Jasmine went to sleep quickly and peacefully with me stroking her head. She was calm and relaxed, but so, so tired. I know we have made the right decision, but it's so hard isn't it? Blubbed all the way home in the car and arrived home just as Dave did, so we have comforted each other.
It is the end of an era really as she grew up with her mad sister Juniper and our lovely Caspian pup. They would often curl up together and they would join Caspian on his walks in the early days. Reunited again, which makes me smile. Here she is doing what she did best, snoozing in the shade.
