The hospital in Vila Verde have been in touch and want me up there tomorrow, for a five minute consultation with the surgeon.

I've told them no. But I have messaged the surgeon and given him my reasons. It's a two day journey, cost us about 250€ plus dinner.

And I've already seen Dr Paulo in Ourique, and he was very happy with the result.

excellent Jan.... but just for future reference; if there really was a need the surgeon see you, but not life threatening, could you not arrange a video call somehow?

If there is one thing I hate to hear about, it's people having a stroke.

Just heard a very good friend had a massive one yesterday.

He's in Beja hospital - which I'm not convinced is the best, but hey ho.

He's only in his 50's.

We don't do strokes in our family, only Uncle Jack had one aged 78. He survived for five years but they were five years of pain for my aunt and three cousins. .

Some younger victims, in their 40s and 50s, make remarkable recoveries. I hope that is the case for your friend, Jan.
