Scottish power

This firm made profits of 1.3 billion pounds last year! 1.3 billion in one year?
To me, the price of energy is one of the great scandals of the age. How can the government not do something about this? Times are very hard for many people without getting ripped off for just trying to stay warm. Btw, despite being called "Scottish" power, it's owned by the Spanish firm of Iberdrola. So the profit is doubtless going back to Spain.

Arbut, don't forget the Government wants them to build as many windmills as they can in your back yard, Cromwell. That's why they need the £1.3bn .....

Unfortunately Os, they get massive subsidies for them quite seperate from their profits.
Another thing that annoys me is the 99,000 different tarrifs they have for gas. It's like "which shell is the pea under"? The sleight of hand means you can overpay massively.
There should be just one domestic price for gas, none of this three-card trick flimflam.

Left SSE two years ago. Tried for over six months to send meter readings on line but they would not be accepted. Kept getting estimated bills. Had several phone calls Eventually spoke to a "manager" who could not explain why I got a message to say they had a computer problem lasting several months. Also could not easily understand their bills. They even rang me after I had told them by email and letter that I did not want to be contacted again.
Am now with one of the smaller suppliers, with a UK based call centre and bills which are clear and easy to understand.

The answer to that, in my opinion, is that public utilities like water, gas and electricity should not
be in private hands but should be nationalised.

That's a 12% rise on what was made last year, and Scot Power is only one of the big five - some make more, some make less.

So, about £10bn altogether in two years.

Remind me: how much did we sell the family silver for? And why couldn't they have been run on a commercial basis? Oh yes, and why are we still polishing the silver... paying for infrastructure and all that?
