I agree, I have said all along that I felt she had been murdered, she became sadly a social embarrassment I thought she was a lovely girl used purely by Charles to produce offspring.

Just think how much money the Government could save on the Justice system if they scrapped all jury trials and gave the cases to a panel of five VVers for an instant verdict !!

the point i can't fathom is--

why so much money/time spent on Madeleine? She is not the first child to disappear, not seen as much effort put into finding other children

She was a very pretty child and her parents are well to do upper middle class. That's why. Sad but true.

Bit cynical there Cromwell.

Try my cynicism as I like to put the situation where it is. Her parents were wealthy enough and intelligent enough to manipulate the press. And they would not give up. The press were willing to be manipulated for a story which would net millions.

That's what I see.

We are fed what the press want us to read, I can not imagine anything worse than the abduction or the murder of a child.
I think many of us have all been a bit careless when on holiday regarding their safety, going down to the hotel bar when they are tucked up in bed! Reading of the McCanns dilemma really made me think.

Fraid I was guilty of that too, Kate, leaving small daughter asleep in a locked hotel room, openable from the inside, whilst we went to an almost adjacent night club. I did however check on her every half hour and Spain was safer then ...er...under Franco!
kidnappers would probably have been shot. Incidentally the burglar theory for Maddie is the most convincing I have heard yet.

Yes, all parents will probably have done stupid things regarding their children, and got away with them. That's life.

What grates with me, regarding the McCann's, is their attempts to absolve themselves or any wrongdoing and to blame the Portuguese authorities for their daughter's disappearance.

Maddie might have been abducted or kidnapped, but had her parents looked after her better it would not have happened.
