Parkin's sort of gingerbread but heavier, with black treacle in.
Scoobydoo weather is I think 'I haven't a scooby doo/clue' what it it/is going to do'. I think.

Di is right, Yorkshire parkin is a sort of flapjack gingerbread cake made with fine oatmeal and plain flour and syrup and black treacle and mixed spice and ginger and nutmeg and eggs and milk and butter and brown sugar and..... It all gets bunged in a warm bowl till mixed through.

It takes forever to cook on a low heat - 120C ish - for a min of an hour and a half.

Right again.

Mum used to make it weeks before Bonfire night. She would score it in squares whilst still warm then wrap it in foil and put it in her dresser drawer so we couldn't get at it. :o

Clare ndb1 was on Bonfire toffee duties. She made the very bestest. I do not know who or why, but someone also made brandy-snaps - no cream, just the biscuits.

Anyway, back to Halifax.........

My mother used to make Parkin. It was a favourite of my Dad, who came from Denton near Manchester.

I loved it, but I haven't seen any for donkey's years.

Now I feel hungry

So, did we all enjoy it.... the programme?

I was crying laughing when when Gillian was telling Caroline about her night with John. Classic!

I have grown to like Sarah Lancashire over the years, but I have always like Nicola Walker - she has such a presence on screen.
