Nooo, I meant us armchair experts WM

I just read that for the town, one of the things they're doing is that the 'gates will be shut at the toll bridge' to hold the water - first either of us knew there was a toll bridge, but now we've looked up the road it's on, we do know where it is and have seen the gates :D
It's right by the level crossing so I guess the trains will be out again :)

I asked my armchair expert! Apparently they did open the sluices at Maidenhead - it saved Maidenhead but that has meant Chertsey and Staines paying the price!

Ria, Mick reckons the reason they don't do what you suggest is because of the tiny chance it might flood the capital.....something nobody would risk.....

I would! Do it as the tide turns and it should all be taken out to sea?

If that happens a sincere "Ooops!" should cover it. :)

I also suspect that is the reason why :(

but surely there must be a way to do a controlled and slow release of the water upstream, esp when the tidal Thames is ebbing, London wouldn't flood then.

But   Cromwell and Frank.

What worries me are the risks of gastroenteritis, typhoid and other communicable diseases that can be caused through sewage and indeed floods. We have been warned of the danger to our dogs, ensuring they do not enter water and saturated fields. All our dogs have been very sick and have had costly injections and treatment from the vets, we took them to the woods or a local field every day for exercise.
