FAO WM...

...or any other computer buff.

I clinked on a link on VV last week and ever since, every time I log into VV pop ups are popping up.

Like everywhere. :o

The left, the right and the top. :x

When I go type the VV page jumps a bit and I feel I'm chasing it to try and type something!

It's never happened before and it's only with VV. :?

Any one help a damsel in distress as I don't do stress.

ALE, It would be interesting to know what the link was, where it was sending you, and also what the pop-ups say.

As for the page jumping, I am wondering if it is to do with the track pad on your laptop.

Do the easy thing first: go to the bottom of any VV page and choose "Delete all board cookies" and see what happens.

Every time (and it's only on VV) a pop up just sits there looking at me on the left of my lap top!

And a stupid pop up offering me music systems (it's a Spanish ad - I have no idea why the hell this is happening!) but it's driving me MAD!!!!!!

Help please!

Nuclear option ALE.

I have had to do this otherwise VV slows to a crawl or sometimes stops altogether.

Clear board cookies as before. What to do next depends on the type of browser you are using, but you will need these addresses: http://vocalvoices.gripsky.co.uk/ and http://gripsky.co.uk/

In IE go to Internet Options>>>Privacy tab>>>Settings>>>Sites button. In the new pane C&P the above addresses into Address of website and click Block. OK your way back to Internet Options. Still in Settings >>>Advanced button. Tick Override automatic cookie handling and Block Third-party cookies. OK back to Internet Options. Now make sure Turn on Pop-up Blocker is ticked>>>In Pop-up Settings and make sure blocking level is at least Minimum.

If using Chrome>>>Select Settings>>>Show advanced settings. In the Privacy section, click the Content settings button and tick Block third-party cookies. In the Cookies section, click Manage exceptions and C&P the addresses into Add a new Hostname. Choose Block as the Behaviour pattern. Close the panes as you make you way back to Settings and close that tab.

Firefox does not allow that level of control so there is nothing to do.

Now for Pop-ups in general.

For Firefox or Chrome based browsers there is are extensions known as AdBlock or AdBlock Plus. They both use filters such as Easy List or Fanboy's which are kept up to date by the net community. Install and enable either of them. In Chrome it is Settings>>>Extensions>>>Get More Extensions. Type AdBlock in the search box and install. The version fo Firefox is here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ostpopular

IE is a bit more problematic but there is a way. Go to Settings - Internet Options - Programs tab - Manage add-ons button. In the left pane go to Tracking Protection then click on Get a Tracking Protection List online. Scroll down and Add EasyList Standard and Easy Privacy. Once they show in the right pane right click on them and Enable. This might happen automatically or you might have to close and reopen IE.

Doing all that will help with pop-ups completely and not only on VV.

Hi Ally
I've had a look and am unable to recreate the symptoms

you mentioned you clicked on a link inside VV, do you know what link that was.

given that the problem disappeared between 9-Feb and 20-Feb the problem would appear to be cookie related. however a cookie is only a method of maintaing state with in an http stream so must be holding a variable to be used by something. did you revisit the same lnk on the 20th Feb ?

the cookies are domain ( .gripsky.co.uk) specific; could possibly be some type of cross site scripting (XSS) contained in a topic which only you and di have visited, however i find that hard to believe

have you carried out a full scan using your AV product

regards
