I am NOT saying sorry.....

.... for the slave trade.

As some Caribbean states want us to do.... and pay them compensation as well for their current 'plight' and living conditions. Free repatriation to Africa is also asked for - that I could go for. Given the choice of living in the Caribb or W. Africa I know which I would choose.

I was not even born, nor were my parents or grandparents. So far as I know none of my ancestors were involved in the slave trade.

Also, where do I go for for my compo? Is it Rome, or Upper or Lower Saxony, or Denmark, or Scandinavia, or Normandy.......? I mean, I must be 'entitled' to some form of compo, I'm British FCOL! It's not like we did anything but take from these places, is it, just as the invaders did to us?

I could not agree more, I am sick of these apologists.
However I do think we should have an apology from those responsible for the destruction of this country.

Oh I do so agree!! Here in Gloucester our local TV comes from Bristol, the centre of the slve trade in its time, and we hear a great deal about this  Cabot Circus, the huge new shopping centre there, was going to be called the Merchant's Quarter but that had local groups up in arms as it apparently glorified the slave trade

The British are NOT to blame for the slave trade, it was started and sustained by the Africans themselves, and the Arabs, and we abolished slavery a lot sooner than most! It's unfortunate that children are being taught guilt in this way.

The idea of you demanding compo from the Romans made me laugh, there is a statue here in town of the Emperor Nerva who gave Glevum (Gloucester) its city status. Some wag once daubed Romani Ite Domum (Romans go home) all over it :P    There are three grammar schools and one public school in the city so Latin still taught ;)

Not only is it lunacy, I believe the UK paid compensation for the slave trade back in the 19th century?

And it was this country that put an end to it. Now we are the slaves to their demands.

When some legal cretin agreed to pay Mau Mau survivors compo though, the "compo for slavery" camp must have thought it was their birthday.
I bet we pay it, too.
