Keith Porteous Wood, executive director of the National Secular Society, said: “This guidance marks a further stage in the British legal establishment’s undermining of democratically determined human rights-compliant law in favour of religious law from another era and another culture. British equality law is more comprehensive in scope and remedies than any elsewhere in the world. Instead of protecting it, The Law Society seems determined to sacrifice the progress made in the last 500 years.”

Lady Cox said: “Everyone has freedom to make their own will and everyone has freedom to let those wills reflect their religious beliefs. But to have an organisation such as The Law Society seeming to promote or encourage a policy which is inherently gender discriminatory in a way which will have very serious implications for women and possibly for children is a matter of deep concern.”

This is deeply disturbing. Who authorised this? What is this nation being turned into? All I can say is that I have no wish to be part of the society that is emerging in this land.

Like it or not this country's culture, laws, and way of life is based on Christian principles. If outsiders are not comfortable with that then let them go somewhere where their "laws" are applied; IOW, piss off!

"Absolutely Nothing Rodo " We have become third rate citizens in our own country. Sharia law has been in practice here for over thirty years that I know of, well hidden primarily but openly practiced Today.
Takeover's in schools, getting rid of moderate Muslims and Christians replacing them with radicals.
Sharia law as stated has been practiced surreptitiously and with the approval of governments.
Mosques erected in many areas regardless of public objections.
Rioting and creating mayhem their human right if they don't approve of incidents or English laws a softly softly approach and virtually ignored by the police.
Interesting how our judicial system far too often works in their favour regardless of the crime committed.
I have Loving Muslim friends whom I value, and there are thousands here like them,however the secret societies that enshroud the radicals is a danger to our society. And governments do Nothing.

My fear is that the leniency our government have shown to all these kind of things has gone too far. It is probably now too late to pull things back.

There are now apparently 14 mosques in Preston alone.

Exactly Rodo, the apathy that exists with the government and indeed the indigenous and the immigrants who are now part and parcel of what society we have left really just "Don't care anymore " we will not change the system it has gone too far,
If we start rebelling against what is going on we will be labelled racist, taken to court and possibly at worst imprisoned. However a fine example of British law is the Muslim teaching two brothers and their sister the Koran whom he sexually interfered with during those lessons...he has been spared Jail "Because his wife mother of his six children "Cannot Speak A Word Of English" will the authorities monitor his children???? I doubt it. And the ethnic woman driver, shooting the lights, on her mobile lost control of her car and mounted the pavement killing two little ones. Banned from driving for a short time. Unbelievable and this is not the first incident of this kind involving foreign drivers in UK.

Ha! Well, this morning the vicar in the pulpit at the church Mrs O attends (not the incumbent, but from the main church in the group) preached his sermon based on Jesus and the Woman from Samaria, and took the line of challenging equality in this country, the poor, the immigrant, so on, and specifically mentioned was women's rights.

So the Ostrich (I'm a communicant member of the church but don't regularly attend these days on the grounds that I'm more rabid Pentecostal than CofE, which I find far too wishy-washy - don't get me started on Rowan Williams for example) decided to challenge him at the end of the service on his stance on Islam and its record on women's rights, especially in the light of the article mentioned in the OP. His riposte was that he would differentiate between moderate Islam and radical Islam. But I'm sorry, I don't think you can do that. Sharia may be being pushed by the radicals but it's fundamental to Islamic belief. He wasn't a happy Easter bunny, I could tell; in the immortal words of Corporal Jones, he didn't like it up him. But I don't regret it.

So in answer to Rodo, what can we do about it, the answer is, to my mind: "speak out". The CofE won't speak out, (at least the National Secular Society did), the Government won't speak out, but there are individuals who will, and we need to take note of who they are and encourage them.

I was thinking more of reading the papers and seeing if any MP speaks out about it, Rodo. Then sending them an email of support - you're not alone, with you all the way, kind of thing .....
