Another person, named and shamed then hung, drawn and quartered by the media, is found not guilty. Not only that, his accusers walk away, anonymity intact.

Isn't it time to put an end to this farce, and isn't it also time to do away with the CPS? In a supposedly open and fair justice system it sits as Judge and Jury on cases and often gets it wrong. Lots of people have had to take out private prosecutions when the CPS failed to act, and many of them have won. Enough is enough.

I agree..the whole business of rapes sexual abuse brought to public scrutiny scanning back 40 years has proved to be no more than a media farce. Some may have been abused some of those claiming haven't . Get over it. Should abuse happen today children should be taught the importance of letting their teachers or someone in authority know.

We will never know the deliberations of the jury room, but I wonder if there isn't now the beginnings of an inherent grass-roots backlash against the CPS and the justice system and all these high-profile sexual prosecutions?

Additionally, Evans was accused of using his power to promote his sexual proclivities - another argument could be that the victims were using their sexuality to promote their advancement. Not sayin' they were, just sayin' that it's a possibility that perhaps needed consideration .......

There are many things that need addressing in our criminal justice system.

I see that, in the new Inquest into the Hillsborough football disaster, much time is
being spent on the subsequent suffering of the victims' relatives. Whilst I have
sympathy for those who lost loved ones on that day, surely the Coroner's function
is to ascertain the cause of the disaster, not its consequential effects.

It's possible.
Just let the Police decide who to prosecute; the CPS seems totally unneccessary to me.

I will never be allowed in Liverpool because of this, not that I am bothered, but it appears that the only acceptable outcome to the latest inquest is that the Liverpool supporters will be found totally innocent and the South Yorkshire police will be found wholly to blame.

I fully expect that to be the verdict returned by the latest inquest.

I came to that conclusion at the time it happened.

Oh myself and Mick do so agree Aggers! If they must still be raking this over, 26 years on, it should be about the facts, not the feelings of the bereaved - watching them read out their statements it all seemed wrong :? :(

That is probably what will happen, yes.

The police have a big share of the blame in this, certainly. Especially the hapless oaf who was in charge. But some Liverpool fans did behave badly on the day, a fact that will one day be considered too socially unacceptable to mention. They had form for getting into grounds without paying (FA Cup final, Liverpool v Everton in the 1980's; some fans climbed over the walls to get in), and let's not mention the Heysel Stadium.

BUT the people who are most to blame, and who are escaping unscathed from all of this? The Football Association.

They knew that stadium was unsafe; there had been almost identical trouble at Hillsborough before (luckily with no fatalities) at a previous FA cup semi-final only a couple of years earlier. Yet they did nothing.

In fact they did worse than nothing, they kept holding semi finals at the same stadium in full knowledge that it was dangerous to do so.

They are the ones who should be in the dock.
