Please can anybody help?

Postby Rodo » 06 Apr 2014, 09:43

For some reason over the past week or so my links no longer work. If I send one to someone else it will work for them, but if I send it to myself it doesn't work. I have combed through all the settings and just can't find the answer at all. I am now on Chrome and this has been working well for several weeks now so I don't think it is anything to do with that really. I use Yahoo mail. Any help or advice gratefully received.

Hi Rodo, according to what I can find this problem started with Yahoo's own mail upgrades at their end and for those who changed from their own Classic mail to Neo.. There are many questions, but not many answers. These might help. I cannot be sure as I do not use Yahoo for anything.

Thanks WM. A couple of things to follow up there. I have drawn a complete blank. I will pursue those in the morning.

Yes hubby did a bit of researching on the internet and said he had seen a lot of questions on this same thing.
It is such an annoying thing - not a major issue, but very irritating.

I use Yahoo Small Business for my mail. I use the web interface too.

I notice that web links typed to myself don't work.

OK so the text editor in Yahoo has an "Insert Link" icon on the icon bar. It's over to the right and looks like two linked circles.

You have two options with this. You can just click on the icon and it will pop up a dialog box in which you can enter the link. It will then be properly formatted as a hypertext link and send correctly. The second option is that you can type some text, then select the text and click on the link button. This then turns your text blue and hides the link behind what you have written. This is quite similar to how the URL button works here on VV when you put the link on the url side of the brackets with url= and then type the text in between the brackets UK Google link.

One more step, a pain, I know. But it works and you can use it.

I'm sure they'll get the formatting stuff sorted later. It's usually an indication that something much more serious is not working and they are focusing all their effort on it.

Hello Suff

I was still no nearer getting any kind of a solution, but thanks a lot for your post. I will try these and report back tomorrow.
Looking on Google etc there are hundreds of people with the same problem. Thanks again.

Hello again. Have just followed both and the first option worked! Bingo. The second option didn't work.
Will try more of this in the morning. Thanks again.

You are welcome Rodo.

Most people have no clue that link embedding is available when you use a HTML editor. It's normally automatic, but when that fails you can always use their tool.

The second option is just tidier, you can always just use the first.

Yes, have tried again and the first one works fine, whereas I can't seem to make the second work at all still. That's fine anyway - I am sorted now thanks to you.
