Cameron says the UK is a Christian country and he is branded as an "Intolerant likely to cause racial tensions".

It's the standard knee jerk reaction of the chattering classes based in London. They are like the three wise monkeys; see no evil, hear no evil, and talk rubbish*

They don't want to believe that there are any problems and just start screaming abuse when anyone contradicts their view of the world. There are a lot of them who work for the media, too.

The burying of this subject as far as possible by them, mentioned upthread, is an indication of their attitude of determined denial.

I've come to the conclusions that most politicians don't live in the real world,
and I am saddened to think of how this country of ours, that I used to be so
proud of, seems to be sinking deeper and deeper into the mire.

Yesterday the BBC ran a piece on this: with comments.

The nearly 2,500 replies were proof that Cameron's remarks were divisive, but not in the way most would have thought. People from non-Christian religions largely stayed away..... It was the "Christians" at war.

The divisions, chasms in some cases, were between practising Christians of all sects; those claiming no religious belief; and the vast majority, those who only claimed to be Christian through baptism or upbringing. The last group, the ones I classed as "cultural" Christians, were the ones most vociferous in their disagreement with Cameron. By and large they were happy for the country to describe itself as Christian, but they were adamant that religion, no religion, should have any part in politics or lawmaking.

And there lies the heart of the problem.

Whilst we, the "mainly" Christian majority, rip ourselves apart with internal divisions and bickering, the minorities get every single thing they want by single minded focus on their "faith" and their prejudices.

Perhaps Cameron should remind the UK that if we were not a Christian country, we might be much less democratic....
