Internet Explorer Vulnerability Warning

Postby Workingman » 28 Apr 2014, 10:15

Microsoft has announced that all versions of IE from 6 to 11 are open to an attack which will let the hacker take over a computer with Administrative rights.

It is reported that users of XP are particularly vulnerable, more so than users of W7 and W8, so it might be time to upgrade as XP is no longer supported.

There is the usual advice about e-mails and clicking on links in web sites. Currently there is no patch available so make sure your Windows updates are up-to-date and stay away from places you are not sure of.

Symantec knows about this and protects against it.

Which is one of the reasons I use it.

It seems to be an outgrowth of a 2013 issue. So MS is being very slow to fix this.

I see MS patched this in XP. Not surprisingly, they did this with Win98 too when XP shipped. It's more about the impact of unpatched XP machines than supporting XP.
