A leaked document from the Labour party outlines the many things it would like to bring in once in power. It wants to: get tough on the sale and advertising of alcohol, junk food and tobacco; introduce new laws to limit the amount of sugar, fat and salt in food; ban junk food advertising on television before the 9pm watershed; end sports sponsorship by drinks firms; bring in minimum alcohol pricing; impose restrictions on where drinks could be sold in supermarkets; a ban on some high-sugar breakfast cereals and the removal of sweets from checkouts.

All these are in addition to the ban on smoking in cars with children present, the introduction of plain packaging, as well has having primary school pupils looked after from 8am to 6pm. And it is all being done "in our best interests."!

We are already the most surveilled society in the western world, with our CCTV cameras everywhere watching our every move, and now they want to control everything we do.

It is bad enough that they want to control us in general terms, as already happens, but to want to micro-manage us on a 24/7 basis is 1984+. It should worry us greatly that there are unnamed and unelected officios in the political classes who even think like this.

They never stopped thinking like this. They just didn't have the technology or capability.

Labour is "Control with a face of liberalism". It has never been anything else. Those at the top fully believe that they know the best way for us to run our lives and if they had their way would not brook any interference in their plans.

It is one of the reasons I will never trust them, never vote for them and never tolerate them. Fortunately for me, also, I never have to be disappointed in them as so many were with Blair, as my expectations are even lower than his betrayals.

Sadly the Lib Dems appear nothing more than "Power Whores" and the Conservatives are lead by a weak leader with dissent never far from the surface. Farage is a Boris style numpty, with a bit of cheeky public school boy and the BNP are going nowhere....

No wonder I voted SNP in Scotland even though I can't stand Salmond....

They truly believe that they have the absolute right to tell everybody how they should be living, down to the last detail. If they get back in expect minimum alcohol pricing, more tax on chips, pop and petrol, 20mph speed limits everywhere, another 5 million immigrants from the People's Republic of Neverheardofitski and even more mooing of the "comyoooonity" word at every verse end.

They think getting 33% of the vote entitles them to do 100% of what they want.

You have to laugh though; Labour are talking of everyone having to take exercise every day when "the best definition of physical exercise" can be arrived at. So everyone has to do it, it's just that they can't agree what it is that you should be doing!

There used to be a phrase used a lot round here, though it's not heard much these days. Namely "It's none of your bloody business". It's overdue a comeback, I think!

One thing puzzles me.....

The two predictions that are currently being banded about now are:

1 - In a few years time most of the population will be obese.
2 - In a few years time there will be a larger percentage of much older people.

Surely, if prediction No 1 comes true, then prediction No 2 will be wrong. Doesn't obesity shorten one's lifespan?

Aggers, a very interesting question.

The logic goes like this:

Modern medical science can extend the life of a moderately healthy person
Obesity is only one of a range of issues which affect health
What “modern medical science” calls “obese”, today, is what would have been called “plump” 100 years ago.
The population is not growing from the birth rate except in ethnic minorities and even that tends to even out over about 3 generations
People who grew up from the 40’s to the 70’s tend to be healthier than people who have grown up later.

Put That all together and you find it probably matches the statistics shown. Although what they are not saying is that in 30 – 40 years that will change. Dramatically.
