Anyone been watching the World Cup football ?

Didn't we do well - I mean the 'English' Team.(The one with half of the players being non-English).

I hear this evening that the English Manager is to keep his job, at an astronomical salary of, I think, three million pounds.

Am I the only one who thinks that the human race is going balmy ?

Yes, Rodo, you are right. I misunderstood a comment made. I think the reference was
to the fact that many of the good players in the English League are foreigners, and go
back to their own countries to play in the world cup games, leaving us with not such a
good selection of players to make up a strong English team for the Brazil games.

Football in not now one of my interests normally. I tend to prefer how football used to
be in the days of my youth, before it became big business.

Less money buying players from other countries and more investment in our own young players, that's what we need. More help from the Government too to nurture the sporting youth of the country.

I am not a fan, and not been watching the matches, but I read newspapers and have eyes in my head so have an opinion, which is this - top flight players are spoiled rotten, they are scouted as young boys and have been pampered and over indulged from a very young age, they have girls falling over them, cars, stupid amounts of money to spend, and are arrogant beyond belief......As very young players they seem to be fit, but as they get older get jaded from their lifestyles and unfit. Did anyone here see the pic of a flabby Rooney that was doing the rounds on Facebook recently? Oh and the England team is far too old, they need young blood

The main problem though is the stupid amount of money thrown at the players, it is beyond belief..................

I helped to train my son's team from U7s up to U14s. In all those years and all the other teams we played against we never saw a scout, not one. We had one player who was picked up by Sheffield Wednesday, but that was because he had previously played for a "feeder" club. They stopped him playing Sunday league in order to protect their investment. He never made it to the big time.

My son also played against James Milner (now of England). He was scouted through his school team, another tie-up with the pro game. Had he only played Sunday league he would never have been spotted.

There are lots of structural flaws in English football and most of them start at grass-roots amateur football. It is not that we do not have the players, but they are too expensive to develop - if they get spotted.

Seeing that they tend to last a couple of weeks at the most, I can't see many of them actually getting that amount !!

The numbers are meaningless - think of a digit: put some zeros behind it.

Moonie, the problem is that no matter how long they last they still get the money.

Us mere mortals get paid till the end of the week if we get sacked. These precious people hardly ever get sacked, and if they do they get their contracts paid up..... and then move on to the next well paid job.
