This is getting bloody stupid.

A footballer is taking grief on Twitter, so tells another user to "go back to your own country" and with that the sky has fallen in on him.

The footballer has apologised for his "provoked" outburst and admitted that it was "out of order", but that's not good enough. The police have, somehow, got involved and are carrying out initial inquiries. The footballer's employers have made "statements". His career is now in jeopardy.

Nothing, not a word, is being said about his tormentor.

The world has gone mad in its desire to be "officially" offended on behalf of anyone, by any words uttered by anyone else at any time.

Free speech............what does that mean exactly? Free to say anything at all?

How can people avoid being pounced on by the Thought Police?

Article in DM about police in Aberdeen being more interested in words about a stolen car from the owner on Facebook than trying to catch the persons who had stolen the car. Clicking keys in a warm office is much easier than going outside in the cold weather and arresting real criminals.

We dont even have an ENGLISH football team any more.. It is an absolute farce... They come from everywhere and generally have the upper hand.

I don't know.... can you imagine the police attending to every utterance of "I'll knock your brains out" or "I'm gonna kill you" said down the local pub? Why are Twitbook so special?

It is as though we are being forced into some modern chivalric straight jacket:
"I am a crack shot, Sir!, and I will see you at dawn on the green."
"Steady on, old boy, that is not necessary."
"Forsooth, Sir, you are right! Let us partake in a flagon of mead and put all this unpleasantness behind us."
"Agreed... barkeep, another round for me and my dear friend."

Sometimes I am glad I am knocking on quite a lot now. I don't know where this country or the world will be in 40 years time.
I'm almost glad I won't be around to see it.

ME TOO.

I mean that - and I feel sorry for youngsters. What a strange world they are growing up in.
