From the beginning I've been against allowing the rebels to win in Syria. Cameron stood firm in the face of an Obama led attempt to depose the Syrian regime.

Now, ISIL is a huge threat, killing towns, villages and foreign citizens in an orgy of power.

Cameron is talking about striking against ISIL in Syria and arming and training the Kurds. Obama is having to revisit his stance on Syria.

I, on the other hand, don't need to change anything. I am now in sync with everyone else. Now they have caught up....

As I say, Ironic.

What I'm always impressed with is the way they change position and blast out the new "reality" with the same fervour as the old without ever taking a second to say "sorry I was wrong".

I wonder when the Chemical weapons of the multiple (9 wasn't it), depots held by ISIL start to be used against people??

After all, the UN disarmed Syria of their chemical weapons. They did not disarm the rebels. More egg, more faces, more dead people.

Politicians, in fact managements in general, are incapable of admitting they got things wrong. It is seen as failure, a negative, yet I, and I guess many others, would view it as a positive.

I would prefer it if they came out an admitted to mistakes and then take action to redress them rather than follow the same path, tweaking bits here and there, in the hope that all will be right in the end.

I won't say that I blame the media, but it has it's part to play.

The price of _any_ failure is too high today. Therefore the illusion of no failure is the only protection. This is not a good thing.

Fortunately for Cameron he was forced to step away from action which would have given a whole country to ISIL. Giving them a base to work from and the financial resources of an entire country and a fairly rich one at that. I can't say it was astute action by Cameron. More good fortune than good planning. What he does with this windfall is more important today.

Much as it pains me to say it, it was the coalition and lack of direct strong leadership which saved us from this embarrassing climb down. Good in times of peace where we are talking about attacking outside of our borders. However a total disaster in times of conflict when our own country or protectorates are at risk.

Our politicians are not noted for their learning capacity. But if we are going to swim in 21st century seas, we're going to have to learn a hell of a lot faster. That means making mistakes and learning from them. Not making one single mistake and being burned at the stake.
