Off to see your lot tomorrow, WM ...

Yorkshire Carnegie RUFC (who seem to be a re-invention of Leeds Carnegie) are playing at my local Championship side Moseley, one of three Friday night games "Mose" scheduled this season.

Both teams have made mixed starts this campaign, and Moseley have perennially struggled in the lower half of this league for a few seasons now. So I'm not expecting a great match ....

The only redeeming feature might be if your lot bring along their cheerleading / dancing troupe! :D

Ossie, Yorkshire Carnegie were once Leeds Carnegie who were Leeds Tykes... it is all a bit messy.

When RU was going professional Leeds had three good teams: Headingley, Roundhay and Morley. Unfortunately none of them were big enough on their own to take on Saracens, Quins etc. so Roundhay and Headingly merged. Morley declined the offer and stayed on their own.

A new stadium was to be built in Kirkstall where the newly formed Tykes would play, but Morrison's gazumped them for the site and plans fell through. The new club initially had no ground except for old Roundhay's training ground so became nomads for a while before tieing up with Leeds RL and YCCC at Headingley, where they still play.

Leeds Tykes/Carnegie were a bit of a Yo-yo club in the Premiership and Nationwide leagues, but look to be on the up again. It should be a good game at Moseley as neither side appears to be good at defence. Expect a few tries.

Thanks for the heads-up on Yorkshire Carnegie, WM.

I don't usually frequent the Championship as Moseley charge an arm and leg for admission / stand seating (over £20  ) and I prefer to watch more grass-roots rugby as it's less "kick and clap" and more running rugby. I hope it's a decent game, we'll have to wait and see ....

28-32 to Carnegie, Frank.

Very entertaining game which went down to the wire. Carnegie had Edwards red-carded and three other players yellow-carded (referee had a poor game, in my book) and were desperately hanging on at 23-29 with 13 men against 15 as the game wound down. Moseley scored a try on 81m, 28-29, but replacement kicker Penn's potential match-winning conversion from wide right just shaved the post. It didn't matter, Moseley couldn't retain the ball from the restart and eventually gave away a needless penalty which Carnegie's Leonard easily knocked over with the last kick of the game. Quite a climactic finish!

LOL, you said "expect a few tries" .... well, they were some time coming; at one stage midway through the first half with both sides cancelling each other out, I thought I might be reporting back on here it was just the one!

Referee heavily influenced the game in the sense that had Carnegie retained a full compliment of players throughout the match (I thought all the dismissals were over harsh), I doubt Moseley would have got anywhere near the try line, and Carnegie would have eventually walked it. As it was, we got a very absorbing final 20 minutes and a nail-biting finish. Result was quite fair, though, in the event.

Anyway onwards and upwards. Today it's table-topping Stratford Town at home to third place Merthyr Town (3 points behind and 3 games in hand!), an encounter which unfortunately has all the hallmarks of a goalless draw, and tomorrow Aston Villa Ladies v Reading Ladies in the FAWSL Division 2, which based on all the previous Villa games I've seen this season, I can confidently predict as 0-1 ! :D
