Oh B*****

Got ready to go out and get the shopping i wanted and the car doors
wouldn`t open.
I sprayed the lock with anti freeze spray and managed to open them
manually.
I thought that would be ok but it would`nt start. I reckon the battery has
had it.
Phoned AA (i only took "AT HOME" out for the first time ever last month)
and they will come within the hour. Breakdowns on the road get priority
which is understandable.
Sitting here now just waiting. Might make another Xmas Cake or might not.

Fingers crossed the AA turn up soon and can replace the battery for you - that is a bit annoying.

But dare I say, thank goodness it may only be the battery. My old car the doors used to freeze shut and I'd have to go in via the back doors and then climb over the seats to get into the driver seat. And then I'd have to hope and pray that by the time I got to the station the car had warmed up enough that the doors would defrost

Good luck!

Meriad,
When the locks have de-frosted, try putting oil in the locks.
A good way is to get a small brush with long bristles and push the bristles which have been soaked in oil into the lock.
That is unless you have a small oil can which can squirt the oil horizontaly into the key hole.
Hope this helps.

3 and half hours later i am still waiting for the AA!!!!
I must give them their due though as they have just phoned
and said it will be 4.15 before they can get here and as they
are so busy a lot of people are waiting over 2 hours on the roadside!
He said that if there was anywhere really important i had to be to get
a taxi and they would reimburse me.
I suppose you can`t get fairer than that but i won`t bother.

That is annoying that they haven't turned up yet, but given the weather I'm not surprised they're inundated with call outs

Could you maybe call the garage you normally take the car to and see if they could pick up a battery from Halfords or somewhere like that for you and then carry out the repair at home for you?

Cruiser, I bought a new car last year September so no longer have the problem thank goodness. Believe you me - last winter and these last few cold mornings I have been saying my thanks every morning for a car door that opened  Problem with the previous car wasn't the acutal locks, but the actual entire inside mechanism within the door. The only way to have fixed it would be to take the entire thing apart... new car may have been more expensive but oh so worth it

That's a real pain Lissie, but it sounds like the AA are doing their best on what must be the busiest day of the year so far for them, with the freezing weather :( Hope they turn up soon! xx

The AA have just sent out a private garage and it is the battery but he had`nt got one in his van to fit my car.
He said to phone AA at 8am tomorrow and ask them to pick up a battery and come and fit it.
He has charged the battery and there is an outside chance that it could start in the morning
but he doubts it.
