Obviously one of those things mums of the past did. Sis liked to use blackcurrant jam, but my favourite was thick cut orange marmalade.

My Mom used to make a huge batch of pastry every Sunday morning. From that she’d make a cheese and bacon or cheese and onion pie which would be cut up over the next few days for my Dad to take to work, there’d be an apple pie for after Sunday lunch and jam and lemon curd tarts. Often she’d do a plate sized one too and use twists of pastry to separate the flavours.

In recent years she’s switched her baking day to Saturday, knowing that Julie and Rog and me and John usually visit in the afternoon.

Always made lemon curd tart with curly pastry strips same as my mum
I don't bake now but I always baked Saturday afternoon load of pastry stuff and a jam sponge for Sunday
