Stockpiling for Brexit ....

Postby TheOstrich » 22 Aug 2019, 16:06

No politics on this Café thread, please, or Ossie will ruffle his feathers at you, and you certainly don't want to be having that!

Is anyone else thinking about doing a bit of stockpiling before October, then? Or are you all just ignoring all the warnings and hope they'll go away :D

Ossie is traditionally a great hoarder of food 8-) Mrs O's response is definitely

Back in Birmingham days, I always used to stockpile cans and dry goods when Asda had them on special offer (although even I had to admit it did get a bit ridiculous once we hit 60 cans of plum tomatoes in the garage). But we did get through them all. Eventually. :D

Anyway, I have started hedging my bets over Brexit and accumulating things like canned soups, beans, chickpeas, tomatoes, and lentils, pasta and long-life milk. They're all dated well into 2020, so shouldn't be a problem as far as usage is concerned, whatever happens.

I think we'll probably retain availability - but I bet the supermarkets will all be put their prices up come October .....

I always have a well stocked larder Ossie ;) ;)

15 jars of curry sauce, 10 of baked beans, zillions of Grumpy's coffee, thanks to Ria and Nadine and I'm fine for spices for at least a year.

Things like chick peas, beans etc are so cheap here anyway. And I can buy them dried, in 5 litre water bottles, at the bar for about 5 euros.

Yup.

I have started doing much the same, including tinned mackerel and salmon and stewed steak.

I hope it is not needed, but it will all get used eventually come what may.

We always have a good stock of tinned and dry goods. Mainly because although we like to get out and shop for fresh food, we're not up to heavy lifting. It means we rely on deliveries so have for a few years made a habit of stocking up with food we eat regularly when it's on offer. It works out cheaper in the long run and keeps delivery charges to a minimum.

For example E has a particular liking for Branston baked beans, currently we have in excess of 50 cans, luckily our new kitchen has loads of storage space

Tinned fish, WM, I hadn't thought of that - thank you! I might get some tuna tins in.
