As for media campaigns, I saw a copy of George Osborne's London Evening Standard today; it's now a freebie newspaper.

They were trumpeting on the front page that, having taken a Poll of Polls, we all now want to stay in the EU!

I wonder how many of those Polls were taken outside Metroland?

I watch plenty "poll of polls" and they are all over the place depending on which medium they were done for, when and where. Sometimes they are pro EU and on others are pro Brexit. Waste of newsprint.

However, getting back to this independence malarkey. I see today that elected mayors and city regions in England are calling for more devolved powers post Brexit.

No thanks, chaps, you are not pulling that one. We have already turned devolved English regions down. If England is to be split then we need to go the federal route, something like the German version. Each, "land" gets it own elected assembly with real powers: equal across the whole of the UK.

Westminster then becomes the "federal" government, but has to listen to everyone.

There would be no border controls as such and the € would be the common currency. NI would also be able to make a direct case in its own right for EU funding.

It wouldn't work. NI has no idea how to operate without Westminster money. Also, Arlene and her pals would have a collective stroke at anything that might involve having anything the same as Ireland, such as using the euro.

I am absolutely convinced that you're right Osc. The implications of Brexit for Ireland (Northern and Southern) have worried me from day one :? xxx
