Obviously I'm not up for the Victorian "Do as I say not as I do", but we have to have some form of restraint.
Otherwise the only possible option is that more and more people move onto benefits until the entire system breaks down, the country runs into Greek style deficit and truly draconian measures have to be applied.
Who would want to go down that route? What thinking person would even countenance this for a second? Oh, let me think, those who believe that others should pay for them (one of my nephews was like this), no matter what they do or do not do, come what may.
This woman in the DM is blatantly taking the mickey but I certainly dont believe she is truly representative of parents on benefits
No I'm sure she isn't. She is just the glaring example of excess in a system which is already overburdened by the casual acceptance that young women can not bother with contraception and everyone else will just foot the bill. It's an attitude thing and the attitude is now that single, non working, mothers can just keep on having children and there are no consequences, except to their health.
You do realise that it costs a heck of a lot more to keep a child in care than it does to pay benefits,
Of course I do. I've been on benefits and I've been in and around the whole fostering/care situation with Mrs S work and friends who were part of the system. I'm not suggesting that EVERY child in this situation is taken into care. I'm suggesting that the sanction of care/re - home of children to irresponsible mothers (note not those who find themselves in the situation but those who put themselves in this situation), would reduce these numbers.
If we don't, eventually the country will run out of money to just give away. Oh I forgot, we already did that. But we keep on doing it.
What's your choice? Cut back the NHS and pensions, stop operations, put the elderly in poor houses, so that we can keep on paying ever more young women who think that endless children to endless fathers is a way of life?????
Personally I think that my approach is somewhat more enlightened. But then I would, wouldn't I. I'm extremely aware it's open to idiots in the government abusing it. But then they are the same idiots causing the problem today.
You have to DO something. We can't wind up like Sweden in the 90's. We're already in the EU and it would not be a salvation.....
