Discussing social work and physical child abuse in our house is likely to erupt into open war. Mrs S, quite literally, was threatened with dismissal from her teaching position if she did not write reports which would endanger the physical health of the child. In other words the mothers boyfriend would seriously physically beat him.

In the end a compromise was struck. The reports were written and not a word of truth was in them.

Trying to convince either me or Mrs S that the social work care more about the children than their procedures and paperwork is a lost cause. Simply we won't believe you because we have the worst possible experience to prove you wrong.

Those who understand Binary and those who do not.

It's no more so - and probably less - than it has ever been; it's just much more easily reported, publicised and read about.

Yes indeed Di. Victorian London was full of child brothels - and in those days the age of consent was 12, so child meant child :(

And the age for working was 12 as well; childhood was very brief, unless you were extremely well-off, which was a very small percentage.
Of course life was pretty brief too, for most.

What is being said is indeed true, but in its time it was not illegal. Males could marry at 14 and females at 12. Sex at the age of 12 was legal. Those rules have no more relevance today than the availability of Opium or the lack of electric light in Victorian times. Whether those times were better, worse or much the same is neither here nor there.

The rules for the past few decades were vastly different, and they were broken. Not only were the victims ignored and the perpetrators protected by the system; it is alleged that some victims were killed.

These things have to be investigated, and investigated under the rules pertaining at the time.

Di I do not think it is less these days than ever has been, in my day going back 82 years the abuse of little ones I know was prolific, and that abuse was probably and quite often committed by a family member. The threats of what would happen to the child by the abuser if "she or he told anyone were terrifying and many of the children's lives became a fearful living nightmare" As I read of the set up for paedophiles today whose groups are and have been protected by the law and those in positions of power and authority shows just how sick this country and society is with regards to paedophiles, particularly when we have read of the support for PIE the Westminster group and those visiting brothels set up purely for the purpose of raping and sodomising innocent little boys and girls.
We can even include sexual abuse and cruelty to the aged these days by all accounts according to today's news..
