Does you house have an odd number?

Postby Aggers » 10 Aug 2015, 21:30

If it has, pray that you don't have a burglary. The police may not be interested.

Some Police Forces now admit that they only visited houses with even numbers for attempted burglaries.

I expect that too many of them are occupied with investigating ancient crimes.

Don't you think they need a good shake-up?

I do.

I think the key word was "attempted".

Given the state of policing, I'm guessing we should be glad they even come to even numbers when the crime was not actually committed.

There are attempted burglaries and "attempted" burglaries.

In one type a prowler is on the look out for for an opportunity, but they are scared off when spotted, maybe by an neighbour or an owner. Then there are those who have broken a window or smashed a door, but are still thwarted for some reason. Those types have committed criminal damage and are probably the more 'professional' burglars.

The reports I read infer that the police do not differentiate between the two, they both get recorded as attempted burglaries, and that is wrong.

A whole new meaning to "odds or evens?"

Ah, attempt burglaries!

One year (allegedly) a police force had major success in reducing the crime of Burglary. However, because attempt burglary is lumped into the overall figures of burglaries, further examination of said figures might have shown that most of the drop in these crimes was in attempt Burglary, not full Burglary.

Had they looked even closer they may (allegedly) have found a rise in the offence of Criminal Damage which was very close indeed to the fall in Attempt Burglary....

Allegedly!

I am in the "Lucky" even number section of our crescent.
Would love to see how these figures are compiled. If you report an "alleged" burglary and are given a crime number does this go in the official statistics?
I can remember were a large well known company produced accident figures which included the cost of insurance claims. One site had no accidents but a very high claims cost. The claims cost in following years was
dropped after several senior managers questioned the figures.
