Worth reading.

Postby KateLMead » 29 Nov 2015, 08:29

My late husband used to say "The Daily Mail is for those who Cannot Think ". "The Mirror and Sun for those who Cannot Read"
However!!! 'as a "Mail Reader" I read one of the finest honest double page assessments in yesterday's Daily Mail of those running and influencing this country.
Title.," Beyond Parady!" By Quentin Letts
    Truly worth reading..

Poor Quentin. Caught in his own bubble-wrap, infatuated with those
he claims to despise in order to make his point. Was there an A-Z lister he missed out in his polemic? Probably, but there are so many if them to choose from.

No mention of the likes of Roger Penrose, Tim Berners-Lee, James Dyson or Stephen Hawking, though. He probably has no clue as to who they are.

I had to laugh when reading the sidebar to his piece.

I haven't read the article but I can tell you the formula.

The DM does not take a position ON something any more. It takes positions AGAINST everything. Even worse is the number of articles which start off with a strident headline and finish with a whimpering contradiction. Not just climate change. Mrs S pointed me at a DM article expounding a diet. I'm sure she read half way through it and, because it said Atkins was no good, sent it to me. I did read it all the way though and responded to her that whilst I'm well aware that a diet is good for my health, I did not feel that a month long diet in which the dieter lost 8lb in the first two weeks and put 2lb back on in the second two weeks, was worth sending to me....

But this is the DM today. I almost never read anything in it unless I can't find another article on the subject and it's of interest to me. It occupies the same place as the BBC for me.

Which is sad because a decade ago it actually had News worthy of the word.

There is a lot to complain about in politics today and a lot that needs fixing. However I prefer a more straightforward byline than the DM when reading it. So, Kate, I hope you will forgive me for not reading it.

Quentin Letts is one of their better reporters and his political insight is pretty good. It's only the publication which I don't read, not the quality of the opinion.

I also like Quentin Letts, it is just a shame that in the lead up he had to go through the Z list Slebs to get his political point across.

Absolutely right Suff, everything in the Mail these days is negative :/ I must admit to buying it on Mondays and Thursdays, as I like the Femail and fashion/lifestyle sections on those days, and the cryptic crossword, but the editorials and news articles are pretty toxic :?

Quentin Letts is a smug stuffed shirt, of the first order!! :x
